WHS Risk Assessments

No industry is immune to serious injury or illness. If WHS obligations are overlooked, exposure to negligence claims and penalties rises. A Risk Assessment gives you a clear picture of your risks and practical steps to fix them—before something goes wrong.

How it works !

A Risk Assessment pinpoints the hazards in your workplace, evaluates how likely and severe they are, and puts controls in place to eliminate or reduce the risk. The outcome is a clear picture of your risk profile and practical steps to make your workplace safer.

How it works (aligned to the Model Code of Practice: How to Manage WHS Risks):

  1. Identify hazards – observe tasks, environments, equipment and behaviours.

  2. Assess risks – consider likelihood and consequence.

  3. Control risks – apply the Hierarchy of Control (eliminate, substitute, engineer, admin, PPE).

  4. Implement actions – assign owners, timelines and resources.

  5. Monitor & review – check that controls are working and adjust as things change.

  6. Consult & communicate – engage workers and HSRs at every step.

Important: Risk management is continuous. It’s a cycle that must be reviewed whenever work, people, equipment or conditions change. A one-off assessment isn’t enough. Consultation is required throughout the process and workers’ input is essential to ensure controls are practical and effective.

How does a Risk Assessment improve safety and compliance?

By completing a Risk Assessment, you will:

  • Understand the risks that exist and could arise in your workplace

  • See what needs attention now versus what to manage over time

  • Gain a clearer view of safety across your business

  • Focus efforts on protecting workers and reducing injuries and illnesses

  • Cut exposure to breaches of the WHS Act

  • Save time and money by preventing incidents before they happen

  • Feel confident you’re taking the right corrective actions in a critical area

FSC Accreditation Audit
An FSC (Federal Safety Commissioner) Accreditation is a comprehensive process overseen by the Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner (OFSC). It ensures that businesses within the building and construction sectors meet and maintain high safety standards. Completing an FSC Audit is a critical step for businesses aiming to achieve or retain certification under the WHS Accreditation Scheme.
